RANGELEY – A price tag of $325 for a dress to be worn once would probably make any parent of a teenager cringe.
Who wants to spend that type of money for a gown, asked Suzanne O’Neil, adviser to the Rangeley Lakes Regional School Class of 2010, when people in the area are hard up for cash.
When mothers, who are also class advisers, started talking about buying prom gowns, a new fundraising idea developed, O’Neil said.
A sale of prom and other special-occasion dresses will take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, March 29, at the Rangeley school gym.
If there’s a gown hanging in your closet, this is an opportunity to bring it to the gym, pay a $5 admission fee and have the opportunity to sell it, she said. People can bring in wedding, bridesmaid, first communion gowns, along with accessories and jewelry.
Vendors for hair and nail care as well as limousines have also been planned by the class of sophomores, she said.
Proceeds from the project will be used by the class for its junior prom and senior class trip.
Area schools and the public are invited to come and browse.
Everyone, buyer or seller, pays the $5 entrance free, she said. For more information, contact O’Neil at 864-3618.
