OCALA, Fla. – Richard M. “Dick” Salls, 68, of Ocala, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, March 11.
He was born in Lowell, Mass., on Nov. 17, 1939. Dick joined the U.S. Army after graduating from high school in Maine.
He was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s disease in 1972, and after eight years of chemotherapy went into remission.
Then he moved his wife and son to Florida, where he became a motel manager in Clearwater. In Ocala, he worked and retired from Central Florida Community College.
His hobbies included antique automobiles and sports. He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Darla “Dee” Salls of Ocala; one son, Steed Salls of Ocala; five sisters, Irene of Florida, and Jenny, Christine, Kathy and Melissa, all of Maine; six brothers, Robert, Kenny, Elwin, Gordon, Donny and Michael, all of Maine; and one brother-in-law, Donny of Arkansas.
