LEWISTON – Fred D. “Andy” Anderson, 86, a resident of 24 Drummond St., Auburn, died unexpectedly Wednesday, March 12, at Central Maine Medical Center.
He was born in Harrisville, R.I., Oct. 30, 1921, the son of Frederick and Grace (Davies) Anderson. He was born and raised in Harrisville, R.I., where he attended local schools. He joined the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II, and just prior to his honorable discharge had served on the USS General William Mitchell, AP 114.
After the war, he moved to Florida for 25 years, working as a ship mechanic in the commercial shipping industry. He then moved to this area in 1972, where he was employed a short time for Pioneer Plastics, until his retirement in 1974.
He’ll be sadly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, the former Mae Bragdon, whom he married June 1, 1944, of Auburn; one sister-in-law, Electa Resse and her husband, Alfred, of Orange Park, Fla.; and four nephews, Dan, Michael, Patrick and John Williamson.
He was predeceased by one brother, Russell Anderson.
