RUMFORD – Joan Plourd Blier, 83, formerly of Farmington, Gorham and Van Buren, died peacefully Wednesday, March 12, at Rumford Communty Hospital with her two daughters by her side.

She was born in Van Buren, June 12, 1924, a daughter of Joseph and Anna (Corbin) Plourd.

She worked as an office clerk for most of her career. She and her husband, Joe, enjoyed their retirement years in Lake Wales, Fla., until his death in 2000 after 57 years of marriage.

She loved flower gardening and enjoyed being able to garden year-round in Florida. She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting, crafts, puzzles, reading, watching romantic movies and her soap operas, convertible rides, cuddling with her cats and spoiling her dog. Her family was the most important part of her life and her grandchildren were the apple of her eye. She never forgot anyone’s birthday or anniversary.

She is survived by her daughters, Ann Marie Owens and her husband, Bud, of Westbrook, and Gloria Maltz and her husband, Jonathan, of Rumford Center; two sons, John Blier and his wife, Carole, of Wells and Winter Haven, Fla., and Michael Blier and his wife, Linda, of Grovetown, Ga.; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Blier Jr., Dec. 27, 2000.

The family would like to thank Dr. Ledesma and the nurses at Rumford Community Hospital for their loving care and concern.
