VERNON, Conn. – Lionel W. “Lyn” Janelle, 83, of Tolland, Conn., beloved husband of Pauline (Arel) Janelle, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 12.

He was born in Lewiston, May 19, 1924, son of the late Ronaldo and Ida (Perrier) Janelle. He lived in Rockville before moving to Tolland, Conn., more than 47 years ago. Prior to his retirement in 1990, Lyn was a plumber and had worked for plumbing companies in the Vernon area.

He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of World War II, and participated in action against the enemy in Iwo Jima in February 1945, where he was wounded and awarded the Purple Heart. He was a communicant of St. Bernard Church, Rockville, and had served as an usher and greeter. He was a member of the Vernon American Legion Post 14, the VFW and the Italian American Friendship Club. He was an avid bowler and he was a volunteer bowling coach for Manchester Association for Retarded Children for several years.

A loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he is survived by his loving wife of more than 60 years; his daughters, Suzanne Liebman and her husband, James, of Hebron, Anne Bole and her husband, Ray, of Holderness, N.H., and Bettyanne Janelle of Enfield; three grandchildren, Lance Liebman and his wife, Dessislava, and Keith Liebman of Willington and Kevin Liebman and his wife, Lauren; a great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Liebman of Pasadena, Md.; a brother, Ronaldo Janelle of Lewiston; two sisters, Carman Russell of Auburn and Jackie Turmel of Baltimore, Md.; and many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Maurice and Normand Janelle; and a sister, Pauline Safelle.

Lyn’s family wishes to thank the Tolland Ambulance EMTs and the supportive staff of Rockville General Hospital.
