LEWISTON – Central Maine Imaging Center has invested in Dynacad technology to aid in the detection of breast lesions. Dynacad, or dynamic computer assisted detection, is used by radiologists in the analysis of breast MRI.
The technological advance aids radiologists in the detection of breast lesions and assists in determining if lesions are benign or suspicious, warranting biopsy. The advances of Dynacad can potentially save patients from undergoing unnecessary biopsy procedures, according to Lisa Perachio of the Central Maine Imaging Center.
A breast MRI exam at CMIC takes approximately 45 minutes to complete. The patient is administered an injection of gadolinium during the procedure. Gadolinium is a contrast agent used to enhance potential breast lesions. Breast MRI images are interpreted by CMIC’s radiologists using Dynacad. Depending on how the breast lesion absorbs the gadolinium and how it is translated through Dynacad, it can assist in denoting if the lesion is benign or suspicious.
