LEWISTON – Arline L. Stone, 81, of 38 Lisbon Road, Sabattus, and Tarpon Springs, Fla., died Friday, March 14, at Marshwood Nursing Home in Lewiston.

Born in Lewiston on Oct. 28, 1926, she was the daughter of David P. and Edythe W. O’Connell Lonergan. Educated locally, she was a 1944 graduate of Lewiston High School.

On Jan. 18, 1947, she married George J. Stone.

She was employed for six years as a secretary at the Pepperell Mill, left the workplace to have her children, and then went to work as the manager of the school lunch program at St. Patrick’s School.

A member of St. Patrick’s Parish, she belonged to the Rosary Sodality, the Women’s Literary Union, United Commercial Travelers, St. Vincent de Paul Society, volunteered at Central Maine Medical Center with the Women’s Hospital Association, and was one of the original “Piggly Wigglies.”

She was an avid reader, enjoyed crewel work and loved taking long walks and wintering in Florida with her husband.

Besides her husband of Sabattus and Tarpon Springs, she is survived by three sons, Robert and wife, Susan, of Auburn, Gary P. of Brighton, Colo., and Brian J. of Sabattus; a daughter, Shauna and husband, Michael Thornton, of Kingston, Mass.; a brother, Thomas W. Lonergan and wife, Irene, of Lisbon; seven grandchildren, Marni Fennessy, Haley Stone, Peter Stone, William Stone, Brenden Stone, Jonathan Stone, and Thomas Stone; four great-grandchildren, Emma, Olivia, Piper and Barrett Fennessy; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, she was predeceased by a son, George “Bill” Stone, who passed away in 1990; and two brothers, John and David Lonergan.
