There was an article in the Sun Journal March 11 concerning the proposed city school budget for the upcoming year. I was astonished at the sum of money being spent to teach nonEnglish speaking people our language – the language of this country.

My ancestors, and the ancestors of many others who came to this country not speaking English, learned on their own.

I did not invite them here. Why, then, do I have to afford them that luxury?

If they want to come here, I believe it is up to them to learn our language and adapt to our ways through their own initiative.
