LEWISTON – It took fire crews minutes Saturday afternoon to extinguish plastic-ware accidentally left in an oven at River Valley Apartments.

Lewiston fire Capt. Tim Myers said it appeared a resident of the apartment at 45 Tall Pines Drive had accidentally left plastic dishes in the oven and forgotten about them. They caught fire when the resident turned on the oven, about 3:45 p.m. Saturday.

“It was smoldering a bit when we got there, and we put it out easily with a dry chemical fire extinguisher,” Myers said. Crews also used fans to clear leftover smoke out of the apartment building.

“She’d just been using the oven to store those things, and forgot they were there,” Myers said.
