LEWISTON – Maurice H. Fontaine Sr., 88, of Laurier Street, Lewiston, died Saturday morning, March 15, at Ste. Marguerite d’Youville Pavilion.
He was born in Lewiston, July 19, 1919, the son of Emile and Rachel Cote Fontaine. Maurice was educated in Lewiston schools and graduated from Roberts Business Academy.
He served his country in the U.S. Army for the 103rd Infantry during World War II.
He married Juliette Bilodeau on Oct. 6, 1945. Juliette died July 12, 1978.
He later married Muriel Bilodeau on Jan. 31, 1981.
Maurice worked many years in contractor sales for Grossman Lumber prior to his retirement in 1985.
He was a member of Holy Family Church; founding member of Holy Family Booster Club; first president of Holy Family Parish Council; president of St. Joseph Society of Holy Family; vice president of Institute Jacques Cartier Insurance Group; and a past code enforcement officer. He was involved as a board member, president and eventually chair of Holy Family Credit Union for 35 years.
Maurice enjoyed woodworking, sports and coaching. He loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Surviving is his wife Muriel; daughters, Lucille Landry and her husband, Paul, and Louise McClure and her husband, Michael; and a son, Maurice H. and his wife, Pauline, all of Lewiston; his wife’s children, Yvette Taylor and her husband, Don, of Rindge, N.H., and Doris Remillard and her husband, Roland, of Lewiston; grandchildren, Tina Provencher and husband, Jason, Karen Richard and her husband, Matthew, Morey Fontaine and his wife, Tracey, Brian Landry and his wife, Amy, Aaron Fontaine and his wife, Kathryn, Jennifer Groover and her husband, Chip, Jason McClure, and Allison Fontaine and her boyfriend, Jared Rasmussen; 13 great-grandchildren; and sisters, Raymonde Cote of Ontario, Canada, and Rejane Lemay of Lewiston.
