BETHEL – Dr. Jules J. Haberman of Bethel, a medical licensing and marketing consultant died March 12. He was 86.
A veterinarian by training, Dr. Haberman specialized in helping scientists and inventors develop, license and market medical devices, veterinary products and drug delivery systems.
From 1956 to 1971, he was a copywriter and account executive with several New York advertising agencies. From 1972 to 1983, he was Director of Life Sciences for University Patents, Inc.(CTT), working to license and market medical inventions for universities, including Arizona, Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Case Western Reserve, New Mexico, Chicago and Pennsylvania.
In Weston, Conn., where he and his family lived for 35 years, in 1982, Dr. Haberman founded H & H Consultants, Inc. with his wife, the former Mary Holcomb. Jules and Mary moved to Sierra Vista, Ariz. in 1989, where he continued his consulting work. In 2004, they relocated to Bethel.
Theater was Jules’ lifelong passion. Co-founding the Westport Community Theatre in 1956, he chaired its board for two years and directed many productions. Throughout his life, he relished opportunities to mentor young people in both theater and business.
He grew up in Brooklyn, N.Y., receiving his Bachelor of Science and D.V.M. degrees from Cornell University in 1945 and 1946. He spent two years as a game pathologist for the New York State Department of Conservation before moving to Los Angeles, Calif. There he worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture, wrote and collaborated on musicals and radio scripts by night and authored two veterinary and agricultural books for Prentice-Hall. He subsequently served three years as a captain in the U.S. Army Veterinary Corps.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; four children, Nancy Jo Cravalho (Edward), Elizabeth Meadows (Edward Easter), Jonathan Haberman (Anne) and Margaret Haberman (Landon Fake); six beloved grandchildren; and his brother Philip.
