Largo, Fla. – Oliver R Woodhouse, 83, died at Largo Medical Center, Florida, on Thursday, March 13, after a very short illness.
He was born in Lisbon Falls and was the son of the late Harry and Emma Richter Woodhouse. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1942.
A veteran of the U.S. Army, he served his country in World War II, in the U.S. Army Tank Corps and was stationed in the South Pacific where he recieved the Purple Heart medal.
Following his military service, he was employed by the JP Stevens Woolen Co., in Lisbon Center. After working for JPS, he was later employed under civil service for 20 years at the Brunswick Naval Station and retired in 1985.
He was a member of the Kora Temple Shrine in Lewiston, Ancient York Lodge AF and AM 155, a member of the Scottish Rite Freemasons as a 32nd degree Mason and was past patron of Pioneer Chapter OES in Lisbon Falls.
Upon retirement, he and Evelyn moved to Old Orchard Beach, spending winter months in Largo, Fla.
He also enjoyed the many social gatherings, playing cards with his family, collecting aluminum can tabs to help sick children at the burn center and wintering in Clearwater, Fla., with Evelyn.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn May Noel, of almost 60 years; three sons and a daughter and their spouses, Peter and wife Nancy of Bath, John and wife Diane of South Plainfield, N.J., Stephen and wife Lois of Bowdoin and Dorie and husband Charles Freeman of Lisbon Falls; nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
