VIENNA, Va. – Anne Elizabeth Murphy Lampal, 42, died peacefully at home on Feb. 25, after living with cancer for more than five years.
She was born in South Kingstown, R.I., to Marjorie (St. Aubin) and Bernard J. Murphy Jr. She grew up in Auburn and graduated from Saint Dominic Regional High School in 1984.
She received a bachelor of arts in philosophy and psychology from Simmons College in 1988, and a master of divinity from Harvard Divinity School in 1995.
After graduation, she served as chaplain at nursing homes, hospices and hospitals in the greater Boston, and Washington, D.C., areas providing non-denominational and interfaith services as well as bereavement counseling.
She then devoted herself to her greatest passion – her children. She gave so much of herself to her family and community, even in the last year of her life when it became increasingly difficult. She was highly creative and intelligent, intensely spiritual, loving, funny, understanding and accepting. Her love of life, compassion, and desire to live will always be remembered and cherished.
Surviving are her husband, Gary B. Lampal, and children, Jared, Adam and Livia; her mother, Marjorie S. Clifford, and stepfather, Peter P. Clifford of Lewiston; father, Bernard J. Murphy Jr. and stepmother, Linda Murphy of Ormand Beach, Fla.; brother, Kevin B. Murphy and family of Portland; brother and sister-in-law, Sean and Claudia Murphy and family of Bellingham, Wash.; and sister, Shannon Murphy of Ormand Beach, Fla.
