NEW GLOUCESTER – Clarice C. Barrell, 94, died Sunday, March 16, at the home of her daughter and son-in-law, Judith and James Drummond of New Gloucester. She lived with her daughter and son-in-law for the past 11 years, where she was loved, taken care of and surrounded by her family she loved.
She was born in Sanford, Aug. 16, 1913. She grew up in Freeport. She graduated from Freeport High School and Gorham Normal School. She married Daniel Alden Barrell of Auburn. They had three daughters, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
She loved her family very much. She especially enjoyed spending time with her great-grandchildren, who brought her great joy and entertainment. She had a very special relationship with her granddaughter Katie, who was also one of her primary caregivers. She really enjoyed family gatherings, especially lobster dinners, as well as our big Maine snow storms. These were the two of her favorite things. Her family found it very fitting that a light snow was falling the morning she passed.
She is survived by her daughter, Judy Drummond and husband, James, of New Gloucester; daughters, Sarah Jane Littlefield of Union and Marcia King and husband, Richard, of Tucson, Ariz.; grandchildren, Katie Gray, Michael Drummond and wife, Jen, of New Gloucester, Janet Littlefield and fiancé, William Flynn, of Hebron and Julie Littlefield of Manchester by the Sea, Mass.; great-grandchildren, Zachary, Harrison, Isaac and Tyler.
She was predeceased by her husband, Daniel Alden Barrell; and son-in-law, David Littlefield of Union.
The family greatly appreciates and would like to thank Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice for their amazing care and service they gave Clarice and our family. We would like to thank the hospice nurses and homecare workers, especially Louise and Michelle. Their care and support was invaluable.
