NORWAY – There may still be plenty of snow on the ground, but downtown businesses are beginning to decorate in spring pastels for Saturday’s Easter Festival.
“There’s nothing wrong with putting color in your cheeks,” Recreation Director Debra Partridge said of the opportunity participants have to walk up and down Main Street to activities.
The Easter Festival, created by the Norway Downtown Promotions Committee, runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Festivities will begin and end at the Norway Memorial Library where participants can pick up their Bunny Trail Maps and activities list, Partridge said.
The annual festival draws hundreds of children and adults to the downtown.
“It grows each year. We had over 320 people last year and 150 did the egg hunt,” Partridge said.
Partridge said Main Street Furniture and Appliance, which just unveiled its new glass storefront, will host Meet the Easter Bunny with balloons provided by Norway Savings Bank. The Second Congregational Church will have face painting and games for children.
New events include the Fare Share Co-op’s Easter smoothies and egg dying with local brown eggs and all natural dyes. Western Maine Art will also host Easter egg art with cutout paper eggs ready for children to decorate their own paper eggs.
A raffle will be held at 1 p.m. for two 20-inch bikes, two scooters and two trikes, plus a $50 gift certificate from New Balance for adults. Partridge said everyone will get a ticket that they can place in whichever raffle they would like to win. The ticket is free and participants do not have to be at the raffle to win. They will be called if their ticket is pulled.
“We want people to enjoy the day and go to as many places as they want,” Partridge said. “It will be a blast.”
Although it had been hoped to hold events at the town square and in the kiosk, Partridge said, the early date of Easter and the snow necessitated moving events indoors so there is no snow day scheduled.
