FARMINGTON – Rena Joan Berry, 89, of Farmington, died Saturday, March 15, at Franklin Memorial Hospital.
She was born July 7, 1918, in Augusta, the daughter of Jack A. and Rena R. (Cook) Gamage. She graduated from Kents Hill in 1936 and attended the Farmington Normal School until 1939.
On Sept. 2, 1939, she married Maynard Berry. He died in 1989. She worked at Trasks Jewelers and J.J. Newberry in Farmington.
Joan was a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Farmington Chapter 143, and dual membership with Martha Washington Chapter 15 in Waterville. She was also a member of the Neighborhood Extension Group, and the Irene Luce Phillathia Class of Henderson Memorial Baptist Church. She enjoyed time with her family and her daily crossword puzzle and in years past she knitted, sewed, had a garden, and traveled.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith A. Wilkie of Waterville; two sons, Charles A. Berry and his wife, Doreen, of Malden, Mass., and Ronald J. Berry and his wife, Karen, of Bath; 12 grandchildren, David, Denise, Melissa, Christian, Kimberly, Jack II, Myrena, Karena, Dawn, Simon, Kendra and Aaron; four great-grandchildren, Tyler, McKinley, Jaxsyna and Carl; daughters-in-law, Barbara Berry of Normal, Ill., and Marion Sussman of Seattle, Wash.; and her constant companion, her dog, Watson.
She was predeceased by her husband; two sons, Bruce A. and Jack Berry; and a son-in-law, Vincent A. Wilkie.
