YORK (AP) – A second group of homeowners in York is expressing opposition to sites under consideration for a new toll plaza at the southern end of the Maine Turnpike.
About a dozen people who live along North Village Road near one of the sites met Friday to discuss how best to persuade turnpike officials to pick a location where no homes would be affected. The Maine Turnpike Authority has said that up to six homes could be displaced if the toll plaza is put there.
Another group of residents in a different York neighborhood has also expressed opposition to some of the sites under consideration.
Maine Turnpike officials have narrowed to four the number of sites under consideration for a new structure to replace the existing York plaza, which was built in 1969. The No. 1 choice is expected to be made in the next few months with construction beginning next year.
