COLUMBUS, Ohio – Backup goalie Fredrik Norrena made 18 saves for his first shutout of the season and fourth of his career and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Calgary Flames 3-0 for their second straight win on Tuesday night.

Manny Malhotra scored two goals for the second straight game and Rick Nash had a goal and two assists for Columbus, seven points out of the eighth playoff spot in the Western Conference.

Leafs 3, Islanders 1
UNIONDALE, N.Y. – Pavel Kubina’s third-period power-play goal helped the Toronto Maple Leafs keep alive their hopes for a playoff spot as they beat the New York Islanders 3-1 on Tuesday night.
Kubina’s screened slap shot from the right point got through cleanly and beat Islanders goalie Wade Dubielewicz for the Maple Leafs’ third win in their past four games. Kyle Wellwood tied the game earlier in the period, and Vesa Toskala got the win by stopping 27 shots.
Rangers 5, Penguins 2
NEW YORK – Sean Avery posted his third two-goal effort in a month and Henrik Lundqvist made 22 saves for the New York Rangers, who got back to their winning ways with a 5-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night.
Avery gave the Rangers a 1-0 lead in the first period and then provided insurance in the third when New York restored the two-goal edge it squandered in the second. Avery has 10 goals in 15 games.
The Rangers shook off an empty two-game trip to Florida that broke their 13-game point streak (10-0-3).
Flyers 3, Thrashers 2
PHILADELPHIA – Mike Richards, Jeff Carter and Vaclav Prospal scored goals and the Philadelphia Flyers kept their hold on the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference in a 3-2 win over the Atlanta Thrashers on Tuesday night.
Antero Niittymaki allowed a goal 58 seconds into the game, but was near flawless in helping the Flyers to their 10th straight series win against the Thrashers. The Flyers haven’t lost to Atlanta since November 2005 and Niittymaki improved to 9-0 against the Thrashers.
Blues 4, Canadiens 3
MONTREAL – Brad Boyes scored his 38th goal in the game and was the only player to score in the shootout and the St. Louis Blues ended a 10-game road losing streak with a 4-3 win over the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday night.
Manny Legace stopped Saku Koivu, Andrei Kostitsyn and Alex Kovalev in the shootout as St. Louis got its first road win in more than a month. Boyes, who scored his team-high 38th goal in the second period, put a backhand past Jaroslav Halak on St. Louis’ second attempt.
Keith Tkachuk scored on a two-man advantage in the first period for St. Louis, which got its first win seven games into a season-high nine-game road trip (1-5-1).
Andy McDonald also scored for the Blues, who had gone 0-7-3 on the road since a 4-1 win in Colorado on Feb. 14 to match the longest road losing streak in franchise history.
