STRONG – Representatives of the regional planning committee from towns in SADs 9 and 58, and Coplin and Highland plantations plan to meet Thursday to discuss lawyers’ recommendations for changes to the proposed school consolidation plan.

Meanwhile, representatives from Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls have not met as a Regional Planning Committee since late November and don’t intend to until the Legislature takes action on proposed legislation before it concerning the school reorganization law.

While preliminary plans have been submitted by both school consolidation groups, only the Western Mountains School District Regional Planning Committee has a final plan nearly ready for submission to the state.

School superintendents from Jay and SAD 36 are planning to submit letters for an extension of the March 28 deadline based on ongoing cooperation between the school systems.

The Western Mountains School District planning committee is scheduled to meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 20, at the Strong Elementary School to take up the proposed language changes.
