At 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, students, staff and parents of Philip W. Sugg Middle School joined in the gymnasium at Lisbon High School. They joined to play their annual Staff Versus Students Basketball game sponsored by the Student Council. Concessions and competition were up for grabs. The competition consisted of three games. The first was the sixth and seventh graders, the second the eighth grade team and the third the eighth graders. Students signed up to play on the first and third team and were automatically on the second team if they played on the PWS Varsity team. On the staff side of the court, teachers and administrators from the middle and high school signed up to play. Unlike the students, these individuals played in all three games, consistently.
The boasting staff took victory in all three games but didn’t seem to run down the spirit of the students. Zack Turner, a student at PWS shared with this Advocate reporter “My favorite part of the game was when PWS Spanish Teacher, Mr. Miguel Castaneda, pulled at the shirt of a student who was running successfully to the hoop.” The sportsmanship was interesting and the play was very much amusing to students. Zack also commented that “This year the competition was at a high on the side of the staff. They had gotten more skilled since last year.”
After experiencing the game this Advocate reporter ends with this note. The upcoming students (and staff) better watch out next year as the levels of experience and skill are only progressing!
