Camp scholarships

WOODSTOCK – The Maine Conservation School at Bryant Pond has funds, left over from last year’s Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife moose permit auction, to provide scholarships for summer camp programs.

The 2008 moose permit auction will add an additional sum sometime later in the spring. Scholarships are also available from L.L. Bean, Pine Tree State 4-H Foundation and local donors. Other groups have also provided funding in various amounts.

Mediators wanted

AUGUSTA – The Attorney General’s Consumer Protection Division is recruiting new volunteer consumer complaint mediators for its spring class. Training will begin on Monday, April 14.

Volunteers will mediate consumer complaints over the phone or by mail in the Attorney General’s office. Mediators are trained in consumer law and mediation techniques.

Mediators are asked to volunteer approximately six hours a week on a schedule convenient to them. During the past year the Consumer Mediation Service recovered more than $792,000 for Maine consumers.

Brain injury session

PORTLAND – The Brain Injury Association of Maine will host its annual conference on brain injury on Thursday and Friday, April 24 and 25,at the University of Southern Maine, Abromson Community Education Center.

The conference has been developed to meet the educational needs of healthcare professionals, service providers, individuals with brain injuries and their families. The goal is to share current information, techniques and strategies in brain injury rehabilitation and identify trends that will affect the delivery of brain injury rehabilitation services in the future.

Calling playwrights

HOLDERNESS, N.H. – High school, college and university students in New Hampshire, Maine and Vermont are invited to write a play, with the winner having it produced on stage in front of a live audience. The Little Church Theater of Holderness is hosting a young playwright competition.

The winner will have their play produced in July at the church theater, as well as win $250, a night at an inn and four tickets to opening night. Entries must be received by June 1 and the winner will be announced June 14.

Foods conference

UNITY – The third annual Local and Sustainable Foods Conference on Growing Our Skills and Community will be held Saturday, April 5, at the Unity Performing Arts Center.

The all-day conference will feature skill- and issue-based workshops, panel discussion, a Maine FEEDS breakout session and two keynote speakers.

The Mud Season Dinner – a Maine Foods Meal will be held at 6 p.m. followed by a closing keynote. Proceeds will benefit Food for Maine’s Future and the Unity Area Food Pantry.

Registration is $5 to $50 sliding scale, suggested donation is $15, dinner reservations $5 to $50 sliding scale, suggested donation is $10.
