In the 1960s, the struggle for black equality drew all Americans to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his “I have a dream” speech. Those words of Dr. King should now be guiding us in decisions to come. “Judge not a man by the color of his skin, but by the content of his character.”

Amazing what one great speech will accomplish.

The Sen. Hillary Clinton camp has played the race card once too often. It was bad enough when Bill Clinton compared Sen. Barack Obama’s campaign with Jesse Jackson’s. I think the content of Bill Clinton’s character was pretty sleazy. If Hillary Clinton lives in the White House so does he.

Now Geraldine Ferraro stated if Sen. Obama was white or a woman, he would not be where he is today. She doesn’t get it. Sen. Obama is where he is based on the content of his character. After this winter of plowing and shoveling, most of us Mainers are as white and pale as the snow on our lawns – but at the Democratic caucuses we didn’t focus on color. We were looking at the content of character and a new hope for our grandchildren.

Let’s kiss the Clintons goodbye! Though I have deep respect for John McCain, our country cannot afford four more years of Bush policies. We are still losing our best and finest in Iraq, at a rate of six a week.

This madness must stop and Sen. Obama will stop it.
