PORTLAND (AP) – A Portland police officer who was acquitted of assault five years ago in a police brutality case has been charged with domestic violence.
Authorities say Brian Regan was arrested Tuesday night on charges of domestic violence and reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon following an incident the night before.
Regan and another officer were acquitted of assault charges after being accused of brutality during an arrest that followed a high-speed chase in 2002.
Despite the acquittal, an internal investigation found that Regan used excessive force.
Regan returned to the force with a demotion but the other officer chose to resign.
