WINDHAM – A young organization calling themselves Teens To Trails (or “T3”) wants to ensure increased opportunities for teens to connect with nature.
Its second annual Teens To Trails Conference event, with its “Gotta Get Out!” theme, is bringing Maine outdoor experts together to share their skills and knowledge with the public on Saturday, April 5, at Windham High School.
Last year, Hebron Academy’s Outing Club was one of the 25 clubs attending the conference. “We want participants to leave inspired to plan their own outdoor adventures,” said Carol Leone, founder of T3.
Participants can choose from more than 50 workshop interactive hands-on topics. Representatives from Maine’s land and water trail systems, including the Appalachian Trail, Maine Island Trail, Baxter State Park, the Allagash Wilderness Waterway and Northern Forest Canoe Trail, will be on hand.
Because Teens To Trails is focusing its efforts on creating and supporting high school outing clubs throughout the state, there will be special sessions for high school outing club advisers and information on how to start an outdoor adventure club.
Participants could win raffles of lift tickets, rafting trips or T-shirts. Preregistration is required to be included for lunch and rockwall climbing. Sign up by Thursday, March 20, and get a free T-shirt. The fee is $10 for teens/$20 for adults and includes breakfast and lunch. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. For the mail-in registration form, log on to www.TeensToTrails.org or call 882-9613.
