PORTLAND (AP) – A game warden’s 20-year-old son who admitted to breaking into a Maine Warden Service evidence locker and stealing six guns is to be sentenced April 1 in federal court.

Kyle Stone pleaded guilty to possessing stolen firearms. A prosecutor said Stone used a hidden key to get into the regional office in Gray last August and forced his way into the evidence room.

An accomplice implicated in the case has not yet been charged.

The guns were recovered from people who had purchased them, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Darcie McElwee said none of the weapons were used to commit any new crimes.

Authorities said there is no indication that Stone’s father, district warden and evidence technician Rick Stone, had any involvement in his son’s behavior.
