JAY – Another bomb threat Thursday forced the evacuation of high school students to the middle school.

It was the fifth time this year the school was searched for explosive devices. None were found, Jay Police Chief Larry White Sr. said.

Students were returned to the high school after police and firefighters searched the building.

Police were told by school personnel at 9:59 a.m. that a note indicating a bomb threat was found on the floor of a first-floor stairwell by a student who notified a school staff member, White said.

“The note is being analyzed by police as it has some unique evidentiary value,” White said.

Detective Drew Hufnagel is investigating the case and was at the high school all day after the threat was reported, White said Thursday afternoon. Hufnagel was assisted by the chief and Cpl. Jeffrey Fournier at the site.

The police department will give its full resources to the incident as it has in the other threats at the school, the chief said.

Police are asking anyone with information to come forward. They can talk to school staff or the police department and the information will be kept confidential, White said.

Police and school administrators working together have cleared four out of six bomb threats that occurred during the school year and expect to find the suspects in the March 6 and the March 20 threats. Five of the bomb threats have been at the high school since Jan. 25 and one was at the middle school in October.

So far, six boys have been charged with terrorizing in connection with the bomb threats. Five are high school students ranging in age from 15 to 17 and one is a middle school student under age 14. School disciplinary hearings are ongoing.
