ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) – Goalies from North Dakota, Michigan State and New Hampshire are among 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker Award announced Thursday.
They are North Dakota’s Jean-Philippe Lamoureux, Michigan State’s Jeff Lerg and New Hampshire’s Kevin Regan.
Only two goalies have won the award for college hockey’s top player since it was established in 1981: Minnesota’s Robb Stauber in 1988 and Michigan State’s Ryan Miller in 2001.
All the other finalists are forwards, including Lamoureux’s teammate, T.J. Oshie. North Dakota is the only school with two finalists.
The others are Nathan Gerbe of Boston College, Ryan Jones of Miami University, Lee Jubinville of Princeton, Simon Lambert of RIT, Ryan Lasch of St. Cloud State and Kevin Porter of Michigan.
The Hobey Hat Trick of three finalists will be announced April 2 and the winner will be announced April 11 during the NCAA Frozen Four in Denver.
