JAY – Selectmen and the Budget Committee have settled on a proposed municipal budget for fiscal year 2009 that reflects a $46,606 increase, about 1 percent over this year’s budget when revenues are factored in, Town Manager Ruth Marden said Thursday.
After two meetings on the initial spending plan of $6.1 million, which reflected a $135,621 increase, including revenues, to operate town government this week, selectmen called for cuts.
The reductions brought the budget proposal to $6 million, and after factoring in the anticipated $2.6 million in revenue, it brings the plan to $3.4 million.
There were a lot of changes in the Highway Department budget, including $25,000 cut from capital improvements, Marden said.
Another $50,000 was eliminated from the Sewer Department’s budget, she added.
The proposal now goes to an informational meeting on Monday, April 7, at the middle school cafeteria with a time to be determined, Marden said.
There could be more changes after the meeting if selectmen choose to make any, she added.
Voters will have the final say on the budget on Tuesday, June 10.
