AUGUSTA (AP) – All of the snow that’s piled up in Maine this winter – more than 100 inches in most places – will mean a longer school year for most kids in the state.
Education Commissioner Sue Gendron says state policy requires snow days to be made up, and the state is sticking by it.
But the state will consider waivers on a case-by-case basis in districts struggling to make up lost instruction time.
Also, the state requirement of 170 days of instruction is being waived for graduating seniors. That’ll allow some districts to avoid delaying graduation ceremonies.
