LEWISTON – Velma Nile Wilcox Dunham of Rangeley and Greene, died on Tuesday, March 18, at Central Maine Medical Center, after a short illness. Wherever she lived, nursing was her passion, from 1943 to 2000.
She served as a civilian nurse attached to the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1946. For years, she provided medical assistance to the Rangeley area as a registered nurse, family medical associate and physician’s assistant.
Upon retiring in 1988 from St. Joseph’s Hospital in West Virginia, she volunteered at Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi until 2000, when she returned to the Maine she so loved.
She was predeceased by those whom she mourned and survived by those who mourn her. We hope she will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.
