LEWISTON – The Saahibo Band, an ensemble of local musicians and dancers led by two Somali singers, will perform Thursday, March 27, at the Olin Arts Center at Bates College.

The concert featuring singers Jamal Karaama and Harun Sheekhey, as well as Auburn fiddler Greg Boardman, is open to the public at no cost. Due to limited seating, though, tickets are required. For more information, contact olinarts@bates.edu, or call 780-6135.

Karaama and Sheekhey will perform separate sets. Besides Boardman, who teaches folk fiddle at Bates, supporting musicians include keyboardist Jan Gill, drummer Ethan Boardman and bassist Jeff Taylor.

“The guys put forth a Western pop-inspired dance feel,” said Seth Warner, manager of concerts at the Olin Arts Center.

Karaama in particular will, in Boardman’s words, offer an “East African-Arabian-reggae-hip-hop mix.”

The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. The Olin Arts Center is at 75 Russell St.
