WINTHROP – Ruby Pettengill, 94, of North Main Street, North Monmouth, died Friday, March 21, at Winthrop Manor.

She was born in Leeds on Nov. 19, 1913, the daughter of F.D. Howard and Gertrude (Robinson) Howard.

She graduated from Monmouth Academy in 1931, Oak Grove College and Nasson College. She had worked as a dietician at Farmington General Hospital and later retired from the Augusta General Hospital.

She enjoyed cooking, knitting and tending to her vegetable and flower gardens. She loved animals. They raised chickens and sheep on the farm and she enjoyed the company of her chocolate lab Abby. She and her husband, Robert, spent many hours aboard their party barge on Wilson Pond.

She was a member of the Monmouth Grange and the Order of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her son, Robert H. Pettengill and his companion, Sherry, of North Monmouth; a brother, Donald Howard of Togus; two sisters, Arlene Tupper of Decatur, Ga., and Shirley Hersey and her husband, Ted, of Compton, R.I.; two grandchildren, Robert A. Pettengill and his wife, Dawn, of North Monmouth and Rebecca Fortier of Sabattus; two great-grandchildren, Cody Fortier and Robert James Pettengill; also several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her husband, Robert Pettengill Sept. 27, 2003.
