FARMINGTON – Flora M. Shaw, 87, of Strong, died Thursday, March 20, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, following a short illness.

She was born July 10, 1920, in Dead River, a daughter of Clyde L. And Lillian (Sampson) Burbank. She was educated in the Dead River Rural School, graduating in 1938, from Flagstaff High School as class valedictorian and in 1943, graduated from Farmington Normal School. She taught in schools of Highland Plantation Rural School, Madrid, Saco and West Forks.

March 11, 1944, Flora married Jack Shaw in Rochester, N.H. In 1970, she graduated from Augusta School of Cosmetology. She then owned and operated Shaw’s Beauty Salon until she retired in 2006.

She was a member of the Strong United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir for many years, was a member of the Bell Ringers, Oppalunski Chapter Order of the Eastern Star and member of the Strong Historical Society.

She enjoyed painting, playing the piano, beano, playing in the cribbage tournaments, enjoyed family outings in Flagstaff and being with her friends.

She is survived by three sons, William John Shaw Jr. and his wife, Pam, of Salem, Daniel L. Shaw of Strong and Patrick M. Shaw of Wilton; two daughters, Terry S. and her husband, Shashi Parekh of Plymouth, Mass, and Barbara Jean Smiley of Strong; a sister, Eleanor Burbank of Anson; a brother, Alton Burbank of Webb, Ala.; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband Jack of 40 years; her parents Clyde and Lillian Burbank; and brothers, Kenneth and Florian Sr.
