RANGELEY – A Rangeley man faces a felony charge of aggravated assault following an incident on Saturday that left a woman with two broken elbows and a severe head laceration.

Christopher A. Scheffler, 28, was arrested after officer Brian Hughes responded to a 9:39 a.m. fire alarm at a School Street apartment, Hughes said Tuesday. He arrived before the fire department to find there was no fire but the victim had pulled the fire alarm for help.

During an argument, according to police, Scheffler shoved the victim causing her to injure her head and receive a severe laceration on the forehead. She also broke both elbows, he said.

LifeFlight met NorthStar Rangeley ambulance in Phillips and air lifted her to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston, Hughes said.

Scheffler was arrested and bail was set Monday at $5,000 cash or $50,000 surety. He has a June 26 court date, Hughes said

said.
