GREENWOOD – Voters will decide on 35 articles Saturday, including election of a selectman and a school board director.
The annual town meeting will begin at 10 a.m. at the town hall.
Town Manager Kim Sparks said Selectman Wayne Hakala is not seeking re-election, and nominations will be taken from the floor for the three-year position. Sparks said Jacqueline Brown is running for re-election to the SAD 44 board, also a three-year term.
Sparks said the final article on the warrant, which will seek a pay-per-bag policy for municipal solid waste deposited at the transfer station shared by Greenwood and Waterford, was proposed by Hakala as a resident.
Sparks said the item is on Woodstock’s warrant as well and aims to encourage recycling.
Voters will also decide if they want to accept the donation of a 1991 Ford rescue truck from the Greenwood Fire Association. The association purchased the truck for $18,000 after voters turned down two requests to raise money for a new equipment truck.
Sparks said the amount of money recommended for the Highway Department has increased by $40,000, to $500,000. She said the increase is due to the number of storms this winter, which have boosted costs for sand, salt, fuel, payroll and equipment repairs.
Selectmen are also recommending $8,900 for park maintenance at the Greenwood Shores rest area, town beach, recreation fields, Maggie’s Nature Park, and Veterans’ Park. Greenwood Shores was turned over to the town by the Maine Department of Transportation last year.
Sparks said voters chose not to raise any money last year for park maintenance.
