LEWISTON – Barbara White, 85, of Kingfield died unexpectedly on March 25, at Central Maine Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 26, 1922, the daughter of Carlton P. and Ethel Murion (Clifford) Wood in Camden. She was educated in the schools of Camden and graduated from Bates College in 1944.

She taught at the State School for Girls in Hallowell from 1944 to 1949. She married Merlin White in May 1949. From 1949 to 1967, she worked at IGA and in the office at Wing Spool & Bobbin. From 1967 to 1995, she worked at the Kingfield Post Office from which she retired.

She was a member of the Kingtown Literary Club, corporator and trustee of the Kingfield Webster Library and secretary and treasurer of the Kingfield Evening Extension. She enjoyed owning and caring for horses throughout her life and being an accomplished English and Western style rider.

She is survived by her husband, Merlin of Kingfield; two sons, Alan White and his wife, Cindy, of Old Town and Kevin White, and his wife, Rachel, of Temple; and a beloved grandson, Jarod.
