Workers ready

RUMFORD – WorkReady, a 60-hour ready to work training program, is being piloted through Region 9 Adult Education Learning Center. Launch of the program is being attended by 14 participants, the largest first-time attendance of any pilot since WorkReady began in Lewiston in June 2006.

The curriculum was created with the needs of employers in mind and is designed to provide participants with the “soft,” or “applied” skills that employers say they need and are most often lacking in job applicants. Graduates are presented with a portable credential, recognized by employers, signifying that they are “ready for work.”

In addition to Region 9, other partners include the River Valley Growth Council, the CareerCenter, Coastal Enterprises Inc. and the Central/Western Maine Workforce Investment Board.

For more information, call Nancy Allen, director at Region 9 Adult Learning Center, 364-2012.
