TURNER – Dan Debruin scored 27 points to lead No. 6 Shooters past No. 3 Fitness World, 90-83, in a first-round Leavitt Area Men’s Basketball League playoff upset.

Brandon Kyajohnian led all scorers with 31 points for Fitness World.

No. 5 Ranor also pulled off a mild upset of No. 4 Lloyd’s Land, cruising to an 83-60 triumph. Mark Belanger banged in 21 points for Ranor, followed by Ian McClure with 17. Jerry Verrill led Lloyd’s with 12.

No. 1 Ben Alpren had no such issues with Wentworth’s, rolling to a 99-66 win behind 22 points from Kevin Gallant and 19 from Eric Canwell. Matt Newell notched 21 for Wentworth’s.

Run ‘N’ Gun lived up to its No. 2 billing with a 100-79 verdict over St. Hilaire’s. Pat Dempsey led RNG’s Big Three with 28 points.

Jon Wallingford chimed in with 25, and Lance Poland produced 23. Justin Perron served up 15 points to lead St. Hilaire’s.

In tonight’s second-round schedule, winners’ bracket matchups feature Run ‘N’ Gun against Shooters at 7 p.m., with Alpren meeting Ranor at 8:30 p.m.

Fitness and St. Hilaire’s will try to begin their charge out of the losers’ bracket at 7 p.m., followed by Lloyd’s and Wentworth’s.
