LEWISTON – Lewiston police and a group of Boston Bruins old-timers will finally meet on the Colisee ice Saturday night, making up for a charity game that was snowed out last month.

“It’s the same game with the same people as we’d planned before,” said Lewiston police detective and team captain Jim Theiss. “And everyone’s welcome.”

Among the names on the Bruins tentative lineup are NHL Hall of Famer Brad Park, Ken Linseman, Gary Doak, Nevin Markwart and Bob Corkum.

Theiss is hoping for a win.

“We want to play some younger guys,” Thiess said, hoping to taunt his opponents a bit.

If the Lewiston guys can win, then maybe next year a more recent player – Ray Bourque, perhaps? – would join them on the ice, he said.

It’s a nice thought. Year after year, the graying, veteran players have a way of making the cops look like the old timers.

Admission is free, though donations will be welcomed.

“We won’t turn anyone away,” Theiss said. “We’re just trying to get as many people inside as we can.”

Parking is free for the matchup. Bruins will be signing autographs and police will give out free stuff, including T-shirts, pucks, balls and other items.
