KENTS HILL – Maranacook Area Youth Hockey Bantams wrapped up an ambitious and successful 2007-08 schedule with a 21-9-3 record following a semifinal appearance in the Casco Bay Invitational tournament. The tournament was played at three sites in the Greater Portland area.

Eventual champion Sackville, Nova Scotia shut out previously undefeated Maranacook, 6-0, in the semis. It was a match-up of the only undefeated teams in the preliminary round. Overall, Maranacook finished second in Division I.

The tournament began with a 5-2 victory over Penobscot Valley. Dakota Bowie notched a hat trick and an assist, while Eric Crawley added a goal and an assists and Ian Palmer registered a goal. Tom Pietroski and George Bragdon each dished out assists.

Casco Bay Goddard was next, with Maranacook mustering a hard-fought, 6-4 victory. Scoring was distributed evenly between Palmer, Crawley and Bowie with two goals apiece. Peter Dyche scored twice for Goddard, with one goal apiece for Andrew Grennon and Donald Clark.

Palmer set up each of Bowie and Crawley’s four goals. Pietroski, Crawley and Dan Welch each were credited with assists. Arron Hymoff set up a pair of goals for Casco Bay.

In its second game of the Saturday session, Maranacook downed Maine Coast of Camden-Rockport, 4-1. Pietroski, Palmer, Bowie and Crawley each found the net. Bowie shared the wealth with two assists, while Welch and Sam Bryant each logged one helper.

River Mullan was a rock-solid goaltender throughout the weekend and lengthy season for Maranacook.
