Auburn – Alfred J. Clark Jr., 79, died peacefully surrounded by his family on March 29, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Auburn on Jan. 19, 1929, to Alfred J. Clark Sr. and Bernice D. Pray. He was a lifelong resident of Auburn, being educated in the Auburn school system.

Joe enlisted in the military at a young age, having served in the Merchant Marines then served in Occupation Force in Japan during World War II, and then went on to serve in active duty in the U.S. Army in Korea. After returning home to the United States, he enlisted in the Marine Reserves.

Together with his son Alan, they owned and operated AC&C Construction until the death of Alan in October of 1994.

He was a 32nd degree Mason of the Tranquil Lodge, a member of the American Legion, VFW, U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation and the disabled American Veterans. Joe enjoyed fishing, boating, camping, traveling and was an avid fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carolyn Anderson Clark of Auburn; two daughters, Sharon Clark St. Germain and her husband, David, of Auburn and Jo-Lynn Clark Starks and her significant other, Kenny, of Lewiston; a son, John Clark and his wife, Louise, of Poland; Pat Clark, wife of deceased son, Alan, of Lewiston; three brothers, Leslie and Roy Clark of Auburn and Charles Clark of Poland; two sisters, Mary Prince of Florida and Bette Pelchat of Auburn; eight grandchildren, Justin and Ethan St.Germain, Kasey and Alan Clark Jr., Demetrius Starks, Anthony Clark and Heather and Hilary Clark; five great-grandchildren; and his two beloved dogs, Corky and Oreo.

He was predeceased by his son, Alan Joseph Clark; and a sister, Dorothy Clark.
