Local dance team takes first for hip hop
RUMFORD – The Expressive Movement Competition Dance Team competed in Peabody, Mass., March 14 to 16. The solos and duos earned six second places and one third place. Six high school girls performed Saturday, earning another second place.
The highlight of the weekend came late Saturday night when the entire team of 10 hit the floor to perform a hip hop dance. The girls won first place, high score for a large senior group, and specialty awards for best choreography and best isolation. They were called back for “The Best of the Best” Showcase to perform the number again on Sunday afternoon.
The girls are from various schools throughout the area, and they dance at Expressive Movement Performing Arts Center in Rumford under the direction of Debbie Murphy.
These numbers and others can be seen at the annual production at 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, May 30 and 31, at Mountain Valley High School.
