AUGUSTA – The Maine Community College System board of trustees acknowledged the work of 13 community college students who were named to the All-Maine Academic Team at a ceremony at the Senator Inn.

The team, which recognizes the academic achievements and leadership qualities of two-year college students, is sponsored in part by Phi Theta Kappa, an international honor society for two-year colleges.

The students honored included Kyle Oliver of Auburn, Lisa Patton of Livermore Falls and Angela Cookson of Madison. Each received a $500 scholarship.

Oliver, a student at Central Maine Community College, Auburn, is majoring in business administration. Achievements include Phi Theta Kappa member; president’s honor recipient, spring 2006; high honors, fall 2006 and spring 2007; Hannaford tuition scholarship; TD Banknorth scholarship.

Also, CMCC Foundation scholarship; Student Government president, 2006-2007; blood drive organizer; Student Government adviser to the president; Operation Keep Maine Warm volunteer; Community Thanksgiving Food Drive volunteer; Salvation Army Giving Tree organizer.

Patton, also a Central Maine Community College student, is majoring in early childhood education. Achievements include CMCC Student of the Year 2006-2007; John H. Lapoint Jr. Leadership Award; president’s honors, fall 2005 and 2006; high honors, spring 2005 and 2006; certificate of appreciation from Androscoggin Head Start; Phi Theta Kappa president.

Also, Lakeside Players president; student mentor for the First Year Connection; performed in “Loaves and Fishes” musical benefit concert for Sisters of Charity Food Pantry; American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women campaign volunteer; Androscoggin Head Start volunteer; Livermore Falls Elementary School volunteer.

Lozier, a student at Eastern Maine Community College, Bangor, is majoring in business management. Achievements include dean’s list, fall 2006 and spring 2007; president’s list, fall 2006 and spring 2007; Student of the Year 2007 nominee; Phi Theta Kappa member, vice president of service, spring semester 2007; Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship recipient, spring 2006 and 2007; Keep Maine Warm volunteer; Pink Tulip Project volunteer; Caring Quilts volunteer; American Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer.
