ELLSWORTH – The Maine Community Foundation awards more than 800 scholarships annually, including the following in Oxford County:

Denmark Lions Scholarship Fund: It provides scholarship assistance to deserving high school graduates who are residents of Denmark. Applications are available at the Denmark Town Office. Deadline is April 30.

Elvira A. Davis Scholarship Fund: The fund provides renewable support to residents of Denmark who are pursuing a college or university education or other post-secondary course of study determined to be the equivalent of a college or university education. Contact the Denmark Town Hall. Deadline is June 1.

Janet Davidson Hammond Medical Scholarship of the Molly Ockett Chapter, DAR: The fund supports graduating seniors from Fryeburg Academy, Lake Region High School and Oxford Hills Comprehensive High School who plan to pursue studies in a medical field at a two-year community college or a four-year college or university. Preference will be given to applicants majoring in nursing or physical therapy.

Those interested should contact high school guidance offices or the Maine Community Foundation. Deadline is April 15.

Mountain Valley High School Scholarship Funds: The Maine Community Foundation partners with Mountain Valley High School to make a number of scholarship funds available to its graduating seniors. Contact the guidance office for information concerning the funds.

Pearl Starbird Scholarship Fund: The fund provides renewable scholarship support to graduates of high schools in Oxford County or Lake Region High School in Naples to pursue college-level education in music or the arts (with special consideration to the study of painting, drawing or sculpture).

“Art” in this context refers to the traditional visual arts rather than writing. There is a preference for the study of classical music. The Starbird fund is meant to make the difference between a student choosing to major in art or music as opposed to a “more practical” course of study. Contact high school guidance offices or Maine Community Foundation. Deadline is May 15.

Rumford High School Class of 1971 Scholarship Fund: The fund supports graduating seniors of Mountain Valley High School who are pursuing post-secondary education at a college or community college. Contact the Mountain Valley High School guidance office.
