SOUTH PARIS – Arthur Adna Herrick, 94, of Fore Street, Oxford, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 31, after spending his last two weeks on earth at Market Square Health Care Center.

He was born in Oxford on July 26, 1913, the son of Adna and Maude (Poland) Herrick. He was educated in Oxford schools. He served in the Company K 182nd Infantry Regiment in the Army of the United States during World War II, and received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star medals. He was a member of the American Legion Post 112 and marched in every Memorial Day parade in Oxford, until retirement.

He married Dorothy (Twitchell) Herrick on Oct. 12, 1949, and they opened their famous Pumpkin Farm on Route 26 in Oxford. He worked at the Robinson Manufacturing Co. in Oxford as a roping carrier, while maintaining an active farm until retirement. On weekends, he worked with kids, teens and adults while an active member of the Advent Christian Church in Mechanic Falls. Additionally, he supported numerous Youth for Christ rallies in the Oxford Hills area for many years.

He had a great love for kids and teens and held yearly “haunted houses” in October for kids and teens at the Pumpkin Farm. Together with his wife, Dorothy, they opened their home to many Maine foster children and then made a home for elderly folks there as well. He was a man of great discipline and had deep faith in God. He was a quiet, nonjudgmental man and never complained about or spoke ill of anyone. He was an angel on earth and he will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew him.

In addition to his wife, Dorothy Herrick of Oxford, he is survived by his daughter, Joyce and son-in-law, David Young Sr. and grandchildren, Thomas Young, David Young Jr. and his wife, Ann and great-grandson, Caleb Young of Oxford; his daughter, Ethel and son-in-law, Roger Gaides of Thornton, N.H.; his granddaughter, Janet and her husband, Sean Prindle and great-granddaughter, Amelia Prindle of Northfield, N.H.; his granddaughter, Karin Gaides and great-grandchildren, Briana Small and Alec LaFoe of Meredith, N.H.; his son, Arthur and daughter-in-law, Barbara Herrick, granddaughter, Debbie Herrick and great-grandchildren, Gwendolin and Bill Bellamy of Groveland, Mass.; brothers, Lloyd and William Herrick of Norway and George Herrick of Auburn.

He was predeceased by his parents, Adna and Maude (Poland) Herrick; two brothers, Chester and Orman; one sister, Maude Thayer; and a great-grandchild, Ansel Prindle.
