FARMINGTON – Elizabeth B. Reed, 95, of Farmington, died March 31, at her home.
She was born Jan. 11, 1913, in Rockland, the daughter of Harry and Ethel (Leighton) Buker. She was educated in the schools of Portland and Farmington, graduating from the Farmington Normal School in 1931.
She married Dr. James W. Reed on Sept. 5, 1936, and they lived in the historic Fairbanks house for 51 years. She was active in community affairs, having served as president of the Hospital Auxiliary, the Garden Club and the Monday Club. She served on the Maine Library Commission and was a co-founder of the Franklin County Friends of Retarded Children and the Red Schoolhouse Project. She also served on the state board of the Maine Association for Retarded Citizens.
She was a Girl Scout leader for 15 years and a trainer of leaders for five years.
She is survived by a daughter, Carol Hosford and her husband, Charles Hosford, of Waitsfield, Vt.; a son, James Reed of Porter; her grandchildren, Katherine Hosford and her husband, Christopher Welch, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and David Hosford and his wife, Melissa, of Concord, Mass.; and four great-grandchildren, Charles Welch, Andrew Welch, Aliya Hosford and Carina Hosford.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1990.
