NOTTINGHAM, Pa. – Jessie McKechnie Stone died unexpectedly in Nottingham, Pa., on Saturday, March 22.
She was born May 31, 1939, in Glasgow, Scotland, the daughter of Alexander McKechnie and Mary Carruthers McKechnie. She grew up and went to school in Scotland. She met her husband, Robert Ellis Stone of Otisfield in Gourock, Scotland, while he was on a tour of duty with the U.S. Navy. They were married in Gourock on April 27, 1973. She was a member of the Church of Scotland.
After they married, Robert, Jessie and their daughter, Valerie, moved to the United States settling in Casco and ultimately in Pennsylvania, where they spent most of their 35 years of married life together. They have two children and two grandchildren.
She loved flowers, gardening, animals, music and her family. She could not pass up an animal in need, and spring always found her ready to care for her flowers, her gardens and her critters both wild and domestic. Her family, friends and pets will all sadly miss her.
She is survived by her husband, Robert of Nottingham, Pa.; daughter, Valerie and husband, Matthew Schmidt, and their children, Kathleen and Kayla of Damascus, Md.; her son, Ellis Stone of Philadelphia; her sister, Mary and her husband, Jack Ross, and her Ross nieces and nephews, all of Victoria, Australia.
She was predeceased by her parents; and two special aunts.
