AUGUSTA – Helen E. Goodine, 97, died Thursday, April 3, at the Maine General Medical Center. She resided in Mexico for many years.

She was born in Bowdoinham, on March 28, 1911, she was a daughter of Fred and Cora (Williams) Merrifield. She graduated from Limington Academy in 1928, and graduated from Gorham Teacher’s College in Gorham in 1931, and graduated with bachelor of science degree from Farmington Teacher’s College in 1955. She taught in Mexico schools for more than 30 years until her retirement in 1971.

She was a member and past president of Oxford County Extension Group, Greater Rumford Senior Citizens Club, Oxford County Retired Teachers Association, Maine Retired Teachers Association, National Retired Teachers Association and the Rumford Point Church and Ladies Aid of the Church.

She was married in Winthrop, in 1934, to the late Charles W. Goodine, who died in Rumford on Nov. 4, 1973.

Survivors include two daughters, Rita Goodine-Galiardi of Windsor and Martha Millett – Maciag of Newtown, Conn.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
