FRESNO, Calif. – William Greenwood, 84, passed away Feb. 29, at the Hinds Hospice Home.

He attended Mechanic Falls High School, where he was a member of the track team and graduated in 1941. Bill served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

For several years, he ran a radio repair shop on Main Street in Mechanic Falls. He was very active in the community of Mechanic Falls as commander of the American Legion, noble grand of IOOF and was a member of the Lions Club.

In 1951, he moved to California, where he worked for Northrop Grumman for 33 years. At his retirement, he was working in the aerosciences lab with the simulator group. After his retirement from Northrop Grumman, he moved to Oakhurst, Calif., where he was active in the Sierra Oakhurst Kiwanis Club and the VFW Post.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elinor Morton Greenwood; daughter, Helen Johnson and husband, James, of New Mexico; son, Daniel Greenwood and wife, Katherine, of California; son, Montford Greenwood and wife, Jackie, of Montana; four grandchildren, Christopher Johnson, Brian Johnson, Poppy Krause and Montford Greenwood; his sister, Eleanor Jewell of Mechanic Falls; brother, Albert Greenwood and wife, Barbara, of Minot; sister-in-law, Marjorie Nugent and husband, James, of Gorham; brother-in-law, Arthur Morton and wife, Joan, of California; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a family memorial service in Mechanic Falls in July.
