LEWISTON – Cecile Blanchette, 84, of 284 Webber Ave., Lewiston, died Saturday, April 5, at Central Maine Medical Center following a brief illness.
Born in Lewiston on Sept. 6, 1923, a daughter of the late George H. and Imelda Cailler Fontaine, she was educated in Lewiston schools. She was married to Gerard P. Blanchette who died in January 1982.
Mrs. Blanchette was a member of the Lewiston Catholic community at Holy Cross Parish, and worked at Knapp Shoe as a stitcher prior to her retirement in 1969. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, knitting and shopping with her friends.
Cecile loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She will be remembered as a loving mother, grandmother and aunt.
She is survived by her daughters, Claudette R. Bazinet and her husband, Billy, of Auburn, and Doris I. Roberge and her husband, Tom, of Braunfels, Texas; her son, Paul G. Blanchette and his wife, Wanda, of Auburn; grandchildren, Jeff Bazinet, Jim Bazinet and his companion, Barbara Heap, Bridget and Chris Shea, Lisa Bazinet, Janine and Mike Daggett, and Nicholas and Dylan Blanchette; great-grandchildren, Alexandra and Andrew Bazinet, John and Joey Shea, and Megan Daggett; her sisters, Simone Nadeau and her husband, Louis, of Lewiston, Juliette Therrien of Mississippi, Therese Lagrange of Lewiston, and Rita Gagnon and her husband, Roger, of Lynn, Mass.; and a brother, Roland Fontaine and his wife, Rita, of Lewiston. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by two sisters, Carmen Michaud and Pauline Chabot; and three brothers, Emile, Herman and Normand Fontaine.
